Create a strong, random password in your browser
Generate a random password locally — nothing is sent over the network.
This tool generates a random password directly in your browser. Set your preferred length and which character types to include — uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols — and generate a new password instantly. Because generation happens locally on your device, the password is never transmitted anywhere or seen by Hosting Horizon.
A strong password is long, random, and unique to each account. Length matters more than complexity tricks like character substitutions — a longer random password is generally harder to guess or crack than a shorter one stuffed with lookalike symbols. Aim for at least 16 characters where a site allows it, and include a mix of character types if you have room.
Reusing the same password across multiple sites means that if one site suffers a data breach, every other account using that password is at risk too. Generating a new random password for each account, and storing them in a password manager, avoids that risk entirely.
Random generated passwords are hard to memorize by design, which is fine — that's what a password manager is for. Most browsers and dedicated password manager apps can store generated passwords and fill them in automatically, so you never have to type or remember them yourself.
This tool relies on your browser's built-in cryptographically secure random number generator to select each character, rather than a simple pseudo-random function. That's the same category of randomness source used for other security-sensitive operations in modern browsers, and it's a meaningfully stronger choice than predictable patterns like keyboard walks or dictionary words with a few characters swapped.
Some websites cap password length or restrict which symbols are allowed. If a generated password is rejected, try regenerating with a shorter length or with symbols turned off, rather than modifying the password by hand, which can reduce its randomness.
If you need to generate secure login credentials for an Apache-protected directory rather than a website account, see our .htpasswd Generator.
No. The password is generated entirely in your browser using local code; it is never sent to Hosting Horizon or anywhere else over the network.
Longer is better. Where a site allows it, aim for at least 16 characters. Length contributes more to strength than complexity alone.
Including symbols can add strength, but a longer password without symbols is often stronger than a shorter one with them. Use symbols when a site supports them and you have room for extra length.
A dedicated password manager is the most practical option — it can store and autofill generated passwords so you don’t need to remember or retype them.
Some sites restrict password length or certain symbols. Try regenerating with different settings, such as a shorter length or symbols turned off, rather than editing the password by hand.
